Teddy Bear Parachute Jump

Back in March we were approached by Kim Appleby, the Hampshire, Berkshire and Isle of Wight Fundraiser with Action for Children about taking part in their sponsored Teddy Bear Parachute Jump at Winchester Cathedral on Friday 29 May.

66 brave teddies signed up and each donned a silk parachute and flew through the sky in exchange for donations to this leading charity, which supports vulnerable children, young people and their families. Many dressed up for the occasion with extra capes and hats and even some boots.

We were thrilled to be asked to open the event with Binky himself cutting the ribbon and three Little Binky Bears (who had been in training for this special day), started things off with a daring formation jump!

All teddies were given full training and were taken up to the top of the cathedral in small groups and then to a countdown of 5-4-3-2-1, they took it in turns to fly down to the applause of their proud owners below. Each bear was then picked up on a special teddy stretcher and taken for a full physical check before being awarded a Super Ted medal and certificate.

It was a brilliant day and helped a little by the wind and the rain, there were some spectacular jumps and all the teddies managed to land safely.

The best bit of news is that so far Action for Children has raised £961.78 with money still coming in.
